Course foundation

FortiSwitch administration and managed onboarding

Build a repeatable switching workflow: inspect the current state, configure a focused change, and verify forwarding. Begin with native CLI navigation and management, then apply the same habits to VLAN membership, tagged links, spanning tree, and link aggregation.

How to study with the official manuals

Use the FortiSwitchOS 7.6.4 standalone administration manual alongside each lab. Read the feature’s purpose, check the native command hierarchy in the CLI reference, and verify both configuration and forwarding after your change. Keep physical-port settings, VLAN membership, and aggregation settings distinct when tracing a fault. Use the standalone documentation for standalone lessons. For Managed Onboarding, use the FortiLink 7.6.4 documentation and make authorization changes on the FortiGate controller.

Curriculum

Open a stage to inspect its lessons and labs.

Stage 1

Meet the CLI

Practice native configuration, interface inspection, and secure management.

Stage 2

Learn Switching

Practice VLANs, packet delivery, trunks, spanning tree, and LACP.

Stage 3

Investigate and Recover

Establish outage evidence, isolate a VLAN fault, and verify repairs without disrupting another department.

Stage 4

Managed Switching

Authorize the expected switch, deliver access VLAN policy, and verify service.

Stage 5

Copper deployment and recovery

FS-124F: declared 1G full-duplex copper, carrier versus VLANs, independent controls and native saved recovery.

Stage 6

Software IPv4 routing and management

FS-124F standalone software IPv4: named VLAN interfaces, static and discard routes, return paths and local management access.

Stage 7

Declared optical service and recovery

FS-124F with explicit SR modules and OM3 fiber; distinguish carrier from VLAN and return-path service.

Stage 8

FortiLink Topologies & Resilience

Extend managed switching into redundant deployment designs.

Stage 9

Administration & FortiEdge Cloud

Maintain switches across their management and software lifecycle.

Stage 10

Layer 2 Security & Authentication

Protect access ports and authenticate connected endpoints.

Stage 11

Multicast & Endpoint Services

Support voice and multicast endpoints with deliberate port policy.

Stage 12

QoS & Multi-Tenancy

Prioritize traffic and separate shared switch resources.

Stage 13

Standalone Layer 3 Routing

Connect subnets through a standalone FortiSwitch.

Stage 14

Monitoring & Advanced Troubleshooting

Diagnose switching incidents using operational evidence.

Stage 15

Final FortiSwitch Assessment

Demonstrate an integrated deployment and recovery workflow.

Course details and blueprint

What you will be able to do

  • Navigate the CLI and configure secure management access.
  • Build VLAN and trunk policies and verify packet delivery.
  • Configure spanning tree and LACP, then diagnose and repair failures.

Path notes

Designed for
Network learners practicing standalone FortiSwitchOS and bounded FortiLink managed switching.
Availability
Preview: 10 CLI labs, 26 switching fundamentals labs, and 8 investigation and resilience activities plus 23 managed-switching activities are available. Five copper deployment, eight software IPv4 routing and two declared optical recovery activities extend that foundation. Remaining depth across the advanced domains is still unfinished; no complete exam coverage is claimed.
